As Colorado Commissioner of Education and Secretary for the Colorado State Board of Education from 1997 to 2007, Dr. Moloney worked with educators, business people, parents, and both Democratic and Republican Governors and legislators while playing a key role in shaping his state's nationally acclaimed program of education reform. Believing that change today is the price of educational excellence tomorrow, he has been a leading advocate of school reform nationwide. Dr. Moloney holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in history and political science and a doctorate in educational management from Harvard University. He has also done graduate work in Slavic history at Oxford and the University of London. In a rich and v~ed professional life spanning over 35 years, he has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, headmaster, assistant superintendent, and superintendent in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland. His career also includes several years overseas, four of them as a Director of the American School in London. Today he is active as a speaker, consultant, newspaper columnist" contributor to professional journals and member of several national educational advisory boards. He has also been an adjunct university faculty member, and frequent commentator on issues of comparative international education. Dr. Moloney served three terms on the National Assessment Governing Board, which sets policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress, more commonly known as "The Nation's Report Card." He is also co-author of The Content of America's Character and Education Innovation: An Agenda to Frame the Future.
